Golden Fleeces

The search for gold in the 1850s literally devastated and tore apart the banks of Barkers Creek. Golden Fleeces is an attempt at redressing this through making tree cosies - blankets of felted natural wool, impregnated with riparian zone plant seeds. The fleece will form a weed mat and a growing medium for the seeds. It is the seeds that are seen as gold nuggets, with each one having the potential to grow roots to stabilise the banks and provide habitat.

The Golden Fleeces have been made in public workshops at the former tea rooms Castlemaine Botanic Gardens.
